Examination Information

KS4 is a very important time as students prepare for their GCSE examinations.  JSTC wants to ensure that our students are in the best possible position when it comes to sitting their final GCSE exams at the end of Y11.

Students will sit internal/mock examinations that will be conducted as if it were a ‘real’ GCSE examination.  It is important that students are ready for the whole exam experience, and if anything needs addressing then this can be done before the formal GCSEs take place. They will be conducted following the JCQ (Joint Council for Qualifications) rules and regulations.

Here you will find some important and useful information to guide students and parents/carers through what is expected and to help with preparation.

Examination Collection Summer 2019

Collection of GCSE results will be on:

Thursday 22nd August 9.00am -11.00am

We are unable to give results information over the telephone or via email. If a student is unable to collect in person then signed authorisation must be received before the end of the summer term in July. This should be sent to Mrs Whitham, Examination Officer. This needs to state who the person is collecting and if they are not known to the school then a form of photo ID must be brought in. If this is not received then we cannot give the results out.

Alternatively a stamped addressed envelope can be left with the Examination Officer.

Collection of GCSE Certificates will be on:

19th November 2018 (summer 2018 exams)

18th November 2019 (summer 2019 exams)

An invitation will be posted out to all Y11 Leavers in October inviting them to an informal evening to collect their certificates and meet with fellow students.

The event takes place in the Main Hall between 5.00pm -7.300pm.

Certificates are important documents that students require to prove the examination results achieved, the initial statement of results will not be enough. Students will be required to sign for them and if they are not able to attend the evening then they can be collected from the Main Reception during term time Monday – Friday 8.30am – 4.00pm. If someone is coming in on behalf of the student signed authorisation must be received beforehand as to who this will be and photo ID will be required.

School will keep certificates for one year from the date of the certificate evening. Any certificates not collected after this date will be shredded and students will need to contact each Awarding Body for a replacement. Please be aware they will charge for this and sometimes will only provide a statement and not a certificate.

Post Results Service

Following the release of results Awarding Bodies offer a Post Result Service – Review of Results (RoRs).

If a student feels they have not achieved as well as expected in a particular subject, on results day Senior Members of staff will be available to discuss this and outline what the options are. Please be aware that there may be a charge for this service and we must have signed consent for us to carry out any RoRs. The Awarding Bodies have strict deadlines and will not except any after this fixed date - currently the 20th September for the summer series of exams.

It must be noted that if a Review of Marking is carried out then marks can be lowered, stay the same or increased which can result in a grade change higher or lower than originally released.

Full details can be discussed with Senior Members of staff or the Examination Officer.
